Menstrual Health Exhibition Led by GYP Youth

Menstrual Health Exhibition Led by GYP Youth

In communities like Epworth, many girls still face stigma, shame, and limited access to safe menstrual health products and information. Menstrual health is a human rights issue—it affects girls’ education, confidence, and overall well-being. Viva Network Zimbabwe (VNZ), through its Global Youth Platform, is committed to protecting children and empowering youth to lead solutions that reduce abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Our youth volunteers are not only passionate but purpose-driven. Their work focuses on ending child abuse with a special spotlight on online sexual abuse and exploitation of children. On 28 May 2025, these young change-makers organized a powerful event: the Provincial Menstrual Health Exhibition held at the Epworth Local Board Hall. The goal was clear—educate, empower, and break the silence around menstruation.

The campaign brought together over 400 girls and young women, supported by 40 male participants, educators, caregivers, and community leaders. Through roadshows and community mobilisation efforts, youth volunteers drew in a crowd eager to learn and share.

Inside the hall, there was more than just information. There was edutainment—fun, interactive sessions designed to teach girls about their bodies, their rights, and how to manage their periods with dignity. Informational booths run by various organizations provided free education, hygiene materials, and personal guidance on menstrual health management.

One powerful takeaway from the day was the importance of cross-sector collaboration. Schools, NGOs, local government, and community members all came together, proving that when we work in unity, we create safe spaces for girls to grow and thrive.

Participants also had the chance to learn about their rights under the Zimbabwean Constitution, especially around access to education and healthcare—key elements in preventing exploitation and abuse.

However, the campaign also highlighted a critical gap: the shortage of menstrual products. Many girls still face period poverty, and this limits their ability to participate fully in school and community life.

Join Hands with Us

At Viva Network Zimbabwe, we believe that protecting children goes beyond just responding to abuse—it means addressing the everyday challenges that put them at risk. Menstrual health is one of those challenges.

We are calling on partners, donors, and community champions to invest in youth-led initiatives like this one. With your support, we can:

  • Provide menstrual products to girls in need.

  • Train teachers, caregivers, and youth leaders in menstrual health and child protection.

  • Expand our reach to more communities and schools.

  • Include boys and men in the conversation to break harmful cultural taboos.

When young people lead, change happens. When communities listen, healing begins.

Partner with us. Fund the mission. Protect our girls.
